This year, Reger Funeral Home (Huntington and Ceredo) is celebrating 100 years of service through five generations. Henry Reger originally founded the firm in 1903 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, where he also served as the coroner of Belmont County. After 10 years, he decided to move to Spencer, West Virginia, where he served as a licensed funeral director. In 1923, Henry moved to Huntington, where he established Reger Funeral Home. The following year, the firm moved to its current location.

In 1927, Henry’s son, James H. Reger earned his license and became the second generation to serve the Huntington community. During the following years, the pair continued to improve the funeral home and, in 1947, decided to build a 250-seat chapel on the west side, which still stands today.

Third-generation funeral director George E. Reger attained his license in 1957. During his career, he served as president of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association and was named Funeral Director of the Year by the association in 1995.

Patrick J. Reger earned his license in 1987, and the fourth generation followed in his father’s footsteps by serving as president of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association in 1996. In 1999, George Michael Reger became a licensed funeral director and joined brother Patrick on the staff of Reger Funeral Home.

In 2017, Andrew J. Reger received his funeral director license. He graduated from Marshall University before attending Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Representing the fifth generation of the family, he joined his father and uncle at the firm.

The Reger family has always enjoyed serving the community in many different ways, including donating vehicles to local emergency services and the police department.
