Remembering A Life: Empowering Consumers at Every Stage of the Journey

April 12, 2018

For Immediate Release: April 12, 2018

Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), the world’s leading and largest funeral service association, has launched RememberingaLife.com, a guide to honoring a life well-lived, from planning a tribute to mourning a loved one.

Remembering A Life is NFDA’s first stand-alone consumer website. It features information about what to do at the time of death, how to plan or preplan a funeral, how to find an NFDA funeral home and what to expect during the grieving process.

“One of the things our members have asked of NFDA is to educate consumers about the value of commemorating a life and RememberingALife.com does just that,” said NFDA President Ken Cahall. “We want everyone who visits RememberingALife.com to find helpful, practical information that will help them take the next step, whether that be meeting with a funeral director, talking with a loved one about their wishes, finding resources to help them cope with their grief or knowing what to expect when attending a funeral.”

The content of Remembering A Life covers many topics, including service options, details about burial and cremation, and prefunding options; however, if visitors don’t find exactly what they’re looking for, they can fill out a short form and NFDA will get them the information they need or refer them to their nearest NFDA-member funeral home for assistance.

The clean look of the site and simple navigation make it easy for consumers to quickly find the information and resources they need, whether they are planning in advance or at time of need or are mourning the death of a loved one or supporting a friend who is grieving.

“The Remembering a Life initiative is about helping consumers focus on what is important with regard to funerals, preplanning, grief and memorialization,” said Christine Pepper, CEO of NFDA. “The initiative is multi-faceted, bringing funeral education to consumers through not only the new website, but also printed materials, social media, public service announcements and a comprehensive public relations strategy.”

Remembering a Life focuses on educating and empowering consumers to make informed decisions about funerals and memorialization. However, no one knows how to better help families than an NFDA-member funeral director, so the initiative will also educate the public about the important role of the funeral director and establish NFDA-member funeral homes as the local experts.

“For 136 years, NFDA has been ‘the’ resource for funeral directors who want to excel in serving families,” said Cahall. “Now, through Remembering a Life, NFDA strives to establish itself as the national resource for consumers. I encourage my fellow NFDA members to share RememberingALife.com with their community – adding a link to your funeral home’s website is a quick and easy way to offer information about the many ways families can meaningfully pay tribute to a life well-lived.”
